The RELEASE team showed that people who have been in prison have more contact with health services for mental health and substance compared to similar people who haven’t been in prison. This was seen in community prescriptions, outpatient, inpatient and emergency service.
The amount of contact people who have been in prison have with emergency and inpatient care is very high compared to other similar people. This suggests that early support from community and outpatient services is not working well for people who are released from prison
